Youth Development

Academy’s Youth Development programme is headed up by Virgil Seymour, a volunteer coach. He oversees a group of other quality volunteer coaches (Glenn Whewell, Paul Byles & Ken Downey) who lead weekly training sessions, preside over weekly matches and provide on-going communication to parents and social and emotional guidance to youth players. Academy Sports Club currently has six youth teams entered in the CIFA leagues, as well as a Saturday morning Junior Football Programme for children ages 5 through 7.

The main objectives of our youth development programme are:

  • Development – training model is based on the Dutch system of football skills development, which includes frequent ball work, positions of play and communication
  • Competition – overseas travel provides competition and experience to those players showing a keen interest and potential.
  • Leadership – football is a mechanism for the development of leadership skills on and off the field. All Academy youth players reaching the U15 and U17 level are required to assist the organization in the coaching of the Junior Football Programme on Saturday mornings.
